Bob -- enjoyed your unique idea, and Lord knows we need something to get us out of the quicksand we've gotten ourselves into.

I hate to throw rocks at such an inventive idea, but I believe that this populist vote idea would only get us deeper into the hole. You see Bob, the problem is that those expecting everyone else to pay for their lifestyle are already a majority and this would give them even more power.

Once we allowed a majority to be supported by "the rich" they continue to work to enhance their ill gotten gains; if they could, they'd vote themselves even more benefits.

While you are correct that secession has some historical baggage, it does offer the best solution. Let the productive have their States and the parasites theirs.

Secession is an absolute American right and it could well serve those lovers of liberty -- it did in 1776.
